This January, I have been constantly inspired by travel inspired homes — homes that embody their owner’s adventures across the world and in particular, places that they fell in love with. We all love to travel and there is nothing more special than finding a remote place in the world which you feel you have an automatic connection with. Whether it may be the mountains, the oceans, the rivers or the cityscape, we all have places we adore and there is something so special about incorporating that feeling into your home.
The notion of the ‘Intrepid Explorer’ was popular in 2017 and will continue to be. There’s nothing more exciting than incorporating exoticism and escapism into our chaotic, everyday urban lifestyles. It might even just be the January blues that are encouraging this sudden wanderlust as the dark, cold mornings do get tiring. But by fusing not just your favourite memories but colours, motifs, textures and patterns in your home decor and artworks, you can feel as though you’re travelling the world from your living room sofa.
Inspired by this theme, I have teamed up with Hannah over at The Elephant Stamp to giveaway a Coconut Pickers Cushion Cover and a beach infused luxury candle. With the Coconut Pickers Cushion, you can create a tropical sanctuary. Inspired by Kerala’s dreamy backwaters, this two-sided tropical print cushion features coconut pickers climbing palm trees on one side and a vibrant mint palm print design on the other will bring a sense of fun and colour to your home. For competition instructions, follow the steps on our Instagram page.
Let’s take a look at some of the best interior spaces that exemplify this wanderlust and some tips on how to get these looks:
Create a moment of zen with Indian inspirations: utilise colours like burnt orange, golden yellow and vibrant pink to capture the vibrancy of India mixed with swirling paisley patterns. You can accomplish this through the use of cushions, textiles and lots of gold accents. Our Indian inspired Elephant wallpaper is a great way to incorporate these textures and colours in your walls and the Orange & Berry Paisley cushion embodies those pinks and rusted oranges in a gorgeous handprinted fabric, perfect for this look.
Float in the Caribbean ocean: I personally love the Caribbean, the turquoise and crystal clear waters are unforgettable, not to mention the tall, towering palm trees which really identify this exotic escape. To get this look, stick to clear, crisp neutrals as your base, such as whites and cream colours. Subtly incorporate those refreshing, bright turquoise colours that familiarise yourself with those warm ocean waters in your decor, such as the Turquoise Lamp — a wonderful pop of colour in a white, clean room.
You may choose to add decor items that reflect the motifs we see on these sandy beaches, such as shells and starfish. The Deep French Blue Butler’s Table is a limited edition piece of furniture which embodies those shallow blue waters and has shells delicately placed around the table top. Or select a custom size beach print to literally add that visual into your space.
Bring the excitement and exoticism of a safari into your home with bright vibrant colours and fun animal motifs. Animal prints are central to this look and you can do so by adding a fun, chic crocodile skin wallpaper into your space in either purple, gold or dark brown. Or you can keep it simple with a neutral colour scheme such as brown, beige and white while adding in pops of colours with motifs that remind you of the excitement of a safari. The Zambezi furniture collections and cushions are a perfect addition for achieving that luxury safari aesthetic.
Ski off to Whistler (my preference) or the Swiss Alps with a cosy chalet-inspired room. To accomplish this look, you’ll need shaggy faux fur, many wooden elements such as exposed timber, cosy cushions and lots of plaid. Start with a plain white sofa and add in as much wooden furniture as you can, such as a wooden coffee table surmounting a shaggy sheepskin rug. The Antra Coffee Table has a rawness about its appearance which fits perfectly within this ski chalet style. The luxurious Naughty Miss Bunny Throw is a wonderful addition to drape over an armchair or sofa for those warm nights in by the fireplace. I nearly forgot to mention the Mammoth California vintage poster, a perfect item for your home or any ski lover.
PS – you can literally bring the smell of the crisp winter and warm, cosy fireplace with surrounding wood into your home by purchasing a candle that reflects those scents.
Morocco Morocco! This Bohemian Allure style has been trending for quite sometime now and it’s laid back feel with vibrant colours and various textures is a very appealing aesthetic for your home. If you loved the excitement of the Souks and the spice markets, then this look is for you. We love Boho, from original Moroccan rugs to cushions and washroom basins, we can help you with this look.
If you have had the opportunity to go on a camel ride (I’d highly recommend it, they’re adorable), then the Safomasi Different Camels Cushion Cover is a beautiful and dainty cushion with pink pompoms which will remind you of those cute and funny animals with two humps.
