While everyone is trying to loose weight and be healthy at the start of January, why don’t you add something fresh and new to your home? Maybe you’ve been thinking about re-doing the kitchen for ages – this is the time to do it. Or want something that stands out in your dining room which will be a piece de resistance when having guests over for dinner. Finally, maybe you’ve just had it with your bathroom – you can’t stand the colours you’ve had since you moved in 15 years ago or that bath is just too small, it’s big enough for ducks but not your you know what. Even the slightest change will make you happy and friends and family will comment on it.
So what will it be….
Will you have a sleek black and white kitchen with hints of brass here and there to add that element of ‘chic’ it’s been missing all this time?
A boldly coloured dining room with a glorious gold bar cart in the corner for all drinking and hostess requirements (we have to be on trend too of course)!
A lovely big bath where you can stretch your legs out whilst sipping a glass of bubbly?
Having a black and white kitchen sometimes doesn’t work, however what you pair with it and how you style it add longevity and look beautiful forever. Adding brass elements to the kitchen allows various elements to stand out and shine in the sun, which is wonderful and has a particular ethereal appearance. Often, people think that black can be boring and dull — or even too dark! — but it doesn’t have to be 50/50 it can be 70% white and 30% black, or the other way around if you prefer black than white. They say black is slimming…. so maybe add more white to make your kitchen look bigger and more spacious!
Take a look at some of the wonderful pictures below from each of the ideas above to trigger your imagination:
When the door is closed and the wine is flowing, having a bold and statement dining room makes the atmosphere that little bit better. Add a few candles and draw the curtains when it gets darker — this will be a great atmosphere for parties and having your friends and family over to celebrate or just be together.
A bold room is most certainly a conversation piece as everyone will love it. Also, it will be that step that people want to take but are too scared of doing but you have been that friend who has taken it. Red, dark green and navy are the most popular colours for bold dining rooms – but remember the rainbow is made up of others too! Have a look around see what you can do with the room, be bold and brave – but also make sure it will stand the test of time. You don’t want to paint it every couple of years if you hate it after a while.
These brilliant bold dining rooms make me want to splash out and grab a paint brush – they are so vibrant. Can you see these in your new year new home?
A List Tip: Be sure to add focal points to your dining room to create a real impact upon entrance. Art and statement sideboards are a great way to do this – plus sideboards act as a storage unit which gives them a double function.
Having a place to unwind that is spa like in your own home sounds divine and not a lot of us have it. A big bath is a luxury, so if that is what you are after – then look no further. Think of pouring in the bubble bath, lighting the candles and getting your glass of bubbly ready for when you purchase a big, humungous bath like these below. How you will actually get it into your home, I don’t know, but I do know you will be so happy you did forever more.
A List Tip: Add a real focal point to your washroom by installing a brand new basin with designs inspired by various exotic locations around the world. Or add some fresh, new bathroom accessories such as matching bins and tissue boxes, diffusers and soaps or Hammam towels.
