While Hannah Payne is based in the stunning region of Hampshire, in the South of England, she also has a love to travel to far away places and go on adventures. I visited Hannah and her two beautiful twin children just over a year ago to pick up the gorgeous Hmong Wingback Armchair in person to ship off to Canada (now sold, but see a photograph below). It was a real treat to see some of her other Ottoman designs in situ that we had posted on Decor A List, as they really are beautiful pieces of such a high artisanal quality.
We all know too well that when we travel, we like to pick up various souvenirs along the way that will transport us back to a happy memory when we are home. Hannah loves to shop and bring back treasures from her trips so she can surround herself with pieces that evoke the feelings of adventure and wanderlust, or to accessorise her outfits with unique items, each with their own story to tell. Storytelling is such an important element at Decor A List because everyone has a story and we believe this should be expressed through your home with unique furniture items, fun pieces of decor and statement artworks. To read Hannah’s story, read her interview below accompanied by some images:
CATHERINE: In light of our Bohemian Allure theme this week, what does the “Bohemian Style” mean to you?
HANNAH: The Bohemian Style for me is all about carefully incorporating exotic styles into a modern home environment, nothing sets off a stunning piece of fabric or furniture better than simple surroundings, it really makes you appreciate its beauty.
CATHERINE: How did you get into furniture design and upholstery initially?
HANNAH: I started upholstery a few months after having twins. The evening classes hammering away at a vintage piece of furniture became a source of escapism for me, allowing me to transfer my identity from being just a Mum into something different and creative.
CATHERINE: When I first discovered you and your designs, I noticed that the fabrics you use are very rare in appearance, and I knew I hadn’t seen them before. So where do you source your fabrics from?
HANNAH: I found many traditional upholstery fabrics uninspiring, [so] I started to experiment, using alternative textiles to cover furniture and soon found myself returning from trips to Morocco laden with beautiful fabrics to cover pieces with. The fabrics found in the souks of Morocco are just so beautiful, to be able to display them as loved centrepieces for rooms is something really special.
Hannah is one of the many designers we work with who has their own personal story that directly relates to what they do. Hannah is our ‘go-to’ person for ottomans and exotic fabrics that you won’t be able to find anywhere else! As we’re all about ensuring your home is unique as you are, each ottoman is made to order in a specific size with your desired fabric so it perfectly matches your requirements. There is nothing factory made as the footstool feet are all individual pieces in their own right, reclaimed from vintage tables.
For enquiries about Hannah’s bespoke ottomans, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org, check out the available designs or view our bespoke page. And by the way, she isn’t exaggerating when she says it is a “stunning part of the world” – so aside from this Designer Spotlight, I’d recommend a trip down to Hampshire!
